I’m Frances Schagen and I owned Crystal Clear Bookkeeping Ltd. for 15 years. I had the privilege of being invited to dive deeply into 100’s of businesses. I saw what worked, and what didn’t. I watched some small business owners struggle for years and some make steady progress.

Watching this I could see there was a fundamental flaw with the way small business was done.  I knew there had to be a better way.

I dove in deeper. I read, went to conferences, studied everything and asked questions of every business owner I met. It was clear that ‘the way it should be done’ was not working. If it were, small business owners wouldn’t be struggling the way they are. Instead they would be thriving.

What is the problem?

We struggle under the MBA model. It was designed in the early part of the last century as a way to divide the management of large business into functional areas. It does not make sense for small business when management is one person or a small team. And yet, it’s the model we are told to use.

We’re told that in order to succeed, we need to master marketing, operations, finance and human resources. Here’s the thing: that only gives us better marketing, more efficient operations, accurate financials and employees who toe the line. That doesn’t help us get plenty of the best customers, laser-like focus on doing exactly the right work, numbers that matter and amazing employees who make our lives easier.

Once I recognized this was the problem, I was able to drill deep down into business and think about what the perfect small business operating system would be. And that’s when I came up with this.

The SB/OS is about the 3 most important people in your business: you, the owner; your customers and your staff (or contractors/suppliers/partnering businesses). Each takes a Journey through your business, from attraction, through engagement until it all begins and ends with serving & delighting. Nail that – and we can all get our heads around that, can’t we? – and you have a business that works for you and is a joy to run.

FAQs

How Does the 30 day program work?

You will get an email lesson every day with a daily exercise. Reading and doing the exercise should take less than 20 minutes.  A couple of the exercises will take more time. Start the exercise and complete it over the next few days.

Each day’s lesson and exercise takes you a baby step forward. A tiny step, but once 30 of these baby steps are strung together, you will see a huge difference.

Doing this small step every day will forge the habit of working on your business for a small piece of time every day.

 

What if I can’t keep up?

Don’t worry. A couple of these daily exercises take a few days. Don’t worry, start them and complete them as time allows.

Some of the exercises build on others, but most don’t. If a day or 2 goes by, just do the current day’s exercises.

Slide each of your emails into a folder and go back to them as often as you want.

You won’t implement all of it right away. Some things will make sense to do immediately – put your energy into the low hanging fruit. Then go back to the emails to find the next things to implement.
