The Matrix of Business

There are 4 acknowledged pillars of business: marketing, production, human resources and finance. The theory is, if you can master each of them separately, you will have a successful business.

Let’s look at this a different way. What if they are inter-related and the goal isn’t to master each separately, but to master the relationships between them. What if they looked like this instead:

Marketing

Production

Resources

Marshalling the skill sets you need to ultimately sell your wares

Having everything you need to produce what you sell

Finance

Telling you how much you need to get and which of your marketing efforts are giving you the best results

Telling you if your business is financially viable and what you need to do to make it more profitable.

If this were the way business was, how would you manage your business differently?

Business is really just 2 steps– making things to sell and selling them. Managing resources and having financial information helps you do that in the most efficient way.

Given that, what are the most important skills you need for business? Leave a comment to share your ideas.
